Password Security: Blame the User or Fix the Problem?

The web has a password problem. You probably have heard about the Adobe.com password breach, in which hackers downloaded millions of encrypted passwords and associated email addresses and password “hints,” then uploaded this data to the web for the edification of the general public. The industry answer to all this bothers me — standard advice that we should all have unique, strong passwords for each of the 30 or so sites we log into. What’s the real solution? Read more…

Responsive Website Design for Mobile

A few weeks ago the dog asked me what year it was.

“It’s 2012, Milo,” I said.

“You wouldn’t know it,” said the dog, “from our website. Take a look at it on my iPhone.”

Thus began the redesign of the Modern Media website for mobile and tablet devices. Fortunately there are plenty of open source resources available that made it (relatively) easy for the web team (me and the dog) to get a mobile-friendly design up and running. Read more…
